Title: Hope is the Thing With Feathers- A West Wing Dystopia Fic with Claudia Jean, Joshua, and Tobias
WC: 1600
Characters: CJ, Toby, Josh (all vignettes)
Rating: PG
Notes: This is a story about Toby. And CJ and Josh, but really, it is about Toby. It is about flawed humans and the desire to both love and be loved. It is for searching of some meaning in a grey nothingness. It is of two Jews and a Catholic, whatever that means. It is of surviving, of not living, and finally, of dying. This is Toby's story, don't be confused about anything else. This is a story of Toby and what happened after the bombs fell.

Title: I Will See You in Far Off Places
Author: raedbard
Pairing: Toby, Huck, Molly
Rating: Hmm. Lite R, for violence and apocalypse-y things.
Word Count: c. 17, 200 words
Disclaimer: Not Sorkin, not Wells, not Cormac McCarthy. Don't sue?
Warnings/Timeline/Spoilers: AU, apocalypse 'verse obviously, I guess some degree of horror/about ten years after the end of the series - Huck and Molly are about fifteen/none whatsoever
A/N: I said I'd have a man vs. himself theme and I don't really know that I have made that work at all ...
Summary: This is a story where nothing exists, and it is the story of my father and my brother.

Summary: This was the only way to win a war of attrition.

AN: This fic comes, under my own tenuous categorisation, under 2. [wo]man vs. man and 7. [wo]man vs. god/religion

Author’s Notes: I'd originally planned to write this brilliant piece on [wo]man vs. religion dealing with CJ and Abbey as a couple. That's what I'd signed up for in the first place. And yeah, no, that didn't happen… Damned fickle muses!

So I switched to this current idea. It's been written over the course of two evenings after work. I don't know that this is my best work ever, but I do know that I agonized over this severely. I've never written from Abbey's POV before, at least not something of this magnitude. It was more of a challenge than I'd really expected. I should know better than to think a new muse would be easy on the first date, especially one like Abbey Bartlet!

The title came after the fact, and is based on the song "Dear God". I prefer the version that Sarah McLachlan did, so that's what I'm sticking with.

Beta: Thanks for the quick beta, 4ensicbones! It's muchly appreciated!

Dedication: My muses, for always letting me stretch my abilities, even when I don't think I can do it.

Title: Ponder The Themes Thou Lovest Best
Author: melliyna
Rating: R
Pairing: (if applicable) No pairings
Warnings/Spoilers: No spoilers but warnings for mature themes and well, general dsytopic themes and violence.
Summary: There are many ways to win a victory and just as many ways to lose as you win.
A/N: A thousand thank you's to raedbard who encourage this fic in it's progression and helped me out in a betaing way. Any remaining mistakes are entirely my responsibility. Also a thank you to my friends list, who have put up with me blathering about this for a while. Finally, the West Wing and the characters are the creation of the wonderful mind of Aaron Sorkin, I'm just borrowing them for a while. Title taken from Walt Whitman poem.

Sign-up Post

+ Okay, here we go: announcing with all due pomp and ceremony, sign ups for 'The Future is Ours': A TWW AU Dystopia ficathon!

(These are the Rules in bulletpoints, as a quick-glance version of the rules present in the community user-info. Please read one or the other. Or both.)

# You may write:

-- a completely AU dystopic fic - the TWW crew in space or a hundred years in the future, or whatever
-- a fic in which the canon world has *become* dystopic - someone drops a bomb on D.C.
-- a world which has simply *become* dystopic by process of evolution, i.e. not through cataclysm
-- a post-apocalyptic (or in the process of an apocalypse) world
-- anywhere within the timeline of the show itself
-- anywhere in the future

What we do ask is that the story not be set in a past time, though a dystopia in which civilisation has regressed into something which closely resembles a past time, is just fine.

We also ask that the fic be set somewhere in the known universe - not the fantastical world of Whereandnow with bonus unicorns.

# Within your dystopia, for structure, for inspiration, or whatever, it would be great if you could use (in any way you choose) one of these classic plot themes (stolen from here):

1. [wo]man vs. nature
2. [wo]man vs. man
3. [wo]man vs. the environment
4. [wo]man vs. machines/technology
5. [wo]man vs. the supernatural
6. [wo]man vs. self
7. [wo]man vs. god/religion

It occured to us that each of these categories is either very easy, or very interesting (sometimes both!) to interpret in a dystopic fashion. So, pick a category, please. If, after you've signed-up with one category, you find that you're having trouble writing it and need to change (for instance if you decide you really don't want robots taking over the world (category 4) but would rather write a society controlled by a totalitarian government (category 2), this is allowed. But please make every effort to write within the category you sign-up with.

[Mod note. Some of these categories are more obviously apt to be interpreted dystopically than others, however, we're sure it's possible. The categories themselves are not meant to define your dystopia but rather give you some help with a theme or a plot within your story. For example, I might pick category 6 - man vs. self and write a story about how Toby copes with his life all alone in a post-apocalyptic world. The category itself has nothing to do with the nature of the dystopia, how the dystopic vision operates, only with what happens to the characters within the dystopic world.]

# There is no limit on the number of fics you can produce before the deadline. There are limitless ways to define dystopia, so if inspiration takes you, feel free to create as many dystopic worlds as you like. Or create one world and write different pairings and storylines for it!

# OCs are acceptable in small doses, but the main characters of the story must be TWW characters.

# Fics should be at least 1,000 words long.

# You have approximately two and a half months to write. Sign-ups run from May 23rd until June 7th, when writing time officially begins. Following the June 7th deadline there is a one week grace period during which you may still sign-up and join the community. After June 14th sign-ups and membership of the community are closed.

# Fics are due August 24th.

# When you're done and want to post, use a header, like this:

Pairing: (if applicable)

You're free to post your fic whenever you're finished. Try to use a beta, definitely use an LJ cut. :)

And if you're still awake after all that and you think you'd like to play along, sign up using this form. Thank you!

One more thing: if you think you'd be up for beta duty, head over here. :)
